Today we’re talking about how to arrange pictures or photographs in the bedroom so that the space looks aesthetic, balanced, and inviting.
If you don’t yet have any wall art, take a look at our New Collection – Original Hand-Painted Canvas Art by YS-Art. You’re sure to find a piece that makes you think, “Wow, that’s so beautiful – I have to show it to my guests!”
What we’ll cover:
- Why you should (or shouldn’t) decorate the bedroom walls.
- How to transform the visual feel of the room – make it look larger, smaller, brighter, or cozier.
- How to choose the right hanging height and spacing in relation to furniture and lighting.
Ready? Let’s get started!
Why decorate the bedroom walls – and is it always necessary?
Not necessarily. If you love the loft style or minimalism, you might not need extra decoration. But an empty wall can quickly feel dull, right?

If empty walls aren't your style
Then there are many options:
- A large painting or multi-panel artwork
- Textured wallpaper – for example, made of fabric, to create a more inviting atmosphere
- A narrow wall shelf with decorative objects or books
You can also combine several options – for example, books with a picture, a shelf with photos, or a family portrait print (which you can also order from us, by the way).
When a large mural isn't a good idea
- If your bedroom is very small and cluttered. A large canvas visually takes up space and can feel oppressive.
- If there are already shelves above the bed – then the wall will look overloaded.
In such cases, you can lean a picture against the floor – but only if there is enough space.

Transforming the Perspective of a Room with Pictures
Your most important tools: wall color, furniture, and decoration.
If the room is small:
- Don't place furniture directly against the wall. For example, move the bed or sofa slightly toward the center.
- Choose light, neutral motifs—such as abstract paintings with highlights.
- Use light-colored surfaces: tables, curtains, floor-to-ceiling mirrors, and metallic details.
- Ensure plenty of light—floor lamps and lights in dark corners.
- Hang pictures at different heights—this makes walls appear wider and ceilings higher.
- A rug with a horizontal pattern visually enlarges the room.

When the room feels too big
No worries – we don’t need to use brickwork, we’ll fix it in a more elegant way.
- Choose flooring with texture or a wood look – parquet, planks, or laminate. Avoid glossy tiles, as they can make the room feel cold.
- Heavy curtains in warm, dark tones create comfort and coziness.
- Add textiles – cushions, throws, and rugs – for a softer, more inviting feel.
- Hang framed artwork in warmer shades to bring depth and intimacy.
- Use lighting selectively – reading and ambient lights rather than full-room illumination.
In larger rooms, multi-panel artworks (triptychs or diptychs) or several related pieces work beautifully.
The right height for hanging art
- Medium-sized artworks: about 150 cm (59 in) from the floor to the center of the piece.
- Very large pieces (over 2 m): about 60 cm (24 in) from the floor. The key is to hang art where it’s comfortable to view.
If your bedroom also serves as a workspace, art can help define separate zones. Choose a calm, soft abstraction above the bed – and a structured, clear composition in the work area to promote focus.

Motif and color – what should you choose?
Pick what relaxes and inspires you. Whether it’s abstract art, delicate flowers, or a powerful bull – the important thing is that you feel connected to the motif.
A special tip: round, glow-in-the-dark paintings. They fit bedrooms of all sizes, give off a soft and soothing glow, and can even replace a nightlight.
